Join the 5K Run/Walk to End Addiction on June 15th

Patchogue, NY — The Hope House 5K Run/Walk to End Addiction is back for 2024! Set to take place on June 15th, this important event aims to raise awareness and support for those affected by addiction. The race will be held in Patchogue, NY, and promises to be a meaningful day for all participants.

Pre-race packet pickup is available on June 14th from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Sayville Running Company on Montauk Highway in Sayville. Credit cards are accepted for registrations, making it convenient for all.

Bayard Cutting Arboretum Visitor Center Opens

Just a short drive from us, the newly opened Visitor Center at Bayard Cutting Arboretum State Park offers an experience for those looking to explore the rich history and natural beauty of Long Island’s South Shore. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the completion of this 1,600-square-foot center, which aims to educate visitors about the historic Cutting family mansion, the arboretum’s diverse plant collections, and the impacts of climate change.

Visitors can enjoy updated exhibits, an informative gift shop, and a staffed information desk at the new center. Highlights include tree specimens, an interactive map, an animated film about coniferous trees, and a historical timeline of the land.

Police Auction

Suffolk County Police Department Vehicle Auction

Westhampton, NY — If you're in the market for a car, mark your calendar for June 15. The Suffolk County Police Department Impound Section will be holding a vehicle auction at their impound facility, located at 100 Old Country Road in Westhampton. The auction starts at 9 a.m. and will proceed rain or shine.

A preview of the vehicles will be available on June 13 and June 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the impound yard. Additionally, vehicles can be previewed for one hour before the auction begins on June 15. More than 80 lots will be auctioned, including sedans and SUVs, all starting with a minimum bid of $500 and sold as-is.

Tragic Fire

Vehicle Fire Claims Life of Blue Point Resident

The community of Blue Point was struck by tragedy on Sunday when a local resident was found dead following a vehicle fire in his driveway. The incident occurred on Wilson Street, where a 2016 Ram 1500 pickup truck caught fire. Suffolk County Police were called to the scene, and the man was pronounced dead upon their arrival.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Although the exact details remain unclear, authorities have stated that the incident is believed to be non-criminal in nature. Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad are diligently working to determine the sequence of events that led to this unfortunate incident.
