Town of Brookhaven Board meeting September 11 , 2025
The Town of Brookhaven Board convened on September 11 to address a range of local matters spanning public safety, land use, and community programming. Among the measures passed was the installation of a rectangular rapid flashing beacon at the intersection of Montauk Highway and Pleasant Avenue in Blue Point. This new traffic control device aims to enhance pedestrian safety along the busy corridor.
Also receiving unanimous support was the classification of the Medford Fire Prevention Night as a program for public good. As a result, the Town will co-sponsor the event, cover it under the town’s public good insurance policy, and waive fees related to portable bleacher usage.
In East Patchogue, the board considered a change of zone for approximately 8.28 acres known as TBOMBP-24, involving 34 tax lots and multiple paper streets. The proposal, moving land from residential and business use to light industrial zoning, is part of a long-term effort to resolve outdated or mismatched zoning and curb unregulated industrial activity in the area.
The meeting also addressed longstanding concerns about 256 Middle Road in Blue Point. This property is deemed unsafe due to extensive neglect, structural damage, and code violations. Despite opposition from a purported owner, the Town is proceeding with demolition plans for the house, boathouse, sheds, and pool after 11 years of complaints from neighbors and local officials.
