Ford Auto Show Arrives in Patchogue

On this day in 1931, Patchogue residents were treated to a unique spectacle as the Ford Motor Company brought its auto show to town. Held under a large tent on the Pelletreau property at the corner of East Main Street and Medford Avenue, the event offered a rare glimpse into the vast operations of one of the world’s leading automobile manufacturers.

From June 12 to June 14, the auto show featured sound motion pictures that allowed visitors to virtually explore Ford's massive production plants. Attendees learned about the intricacies of car and truck manufacturing, from the mining of coal and iron ore to the transportation of these materials in Ford-owned railroad cars and lake ships. The show included special exhibits revealing the step-by-step process of car part production, a cut-away truck chassis, and a Tudor body cut in half to showcase its construction.

The star of the event was the Ford Model A, an iconic car that had captured the hearts of Americans since its introduction. Prices for the Model A ranged from $385 for a roadster to $1,400 for the town car. This versatile vehicle was powered by a water-cooled L-head inline four-cylinder engine, delivering 40 horsepower. With a top speed of around 65 mph, the Model A featured a 103.5-inch wheelbase.

The Model A came in a wide variety of styles, including standard and deluxe coupes, business coupes, sports coupes, standard and deluxe roadster coupes, convertible cabriolets, convertible sedans, standard and deluxe phaetons, standard and deluxe Tudor sedans, town cars, and five-window standard and three-window deluxe Fordors.

JetBlue has announced it will commence operations at Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) starting in October, providing new travel options to Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, and Palm Beach. This marks the first time the New York-based airline will serve ISP, complementing its existing operations at JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark Liberty airports. To celebrate the launch, JetBlue is offering one-way fares starting at $49 for a limited time.

The addition of ISP to JetBlue’s network is expected to offer greater convenience for Long Island travelers and contribute significantly to the local economy through job creation and increased tourism. The airline currently employs over 8,800 crewmembers in New York State.

The business community has long advocated for increased nonstop services at MacArthur Airport. An analysis by the HIA-LI in 2021 projected that additional flights could double business travel and generate over $1 billion in annual revenue.
