Next time you find yourself complaining about the roads around Patchogue, take a look at this article. Back in 1935, those roads were notorious for their rough, uneven terrain and clouds of dust that followed every passing car. It took a coordinated effort from the village and town to level and grade the roads, spread cinders, and finally apply a heavy coat of oil to keep the dust down.
