This week’s stories are a tough reminder of how quickly life can change on our local roads. We’re covering several serious accidents and a court sentencing tied to a tragic case. At the same time, there’s progress being made with Patchogue and Bellport getting infrastructure boosts.

🚨 A Mastic woman was charged with driving while impaired after hitting a pedestrian near Exit 64 on the Long Island Expressway in Medford early Sunday morning. The victim suffered serious injuries, and the driver was arrested at the scene, Suffolk police said. [Daily Voice]
🛵 A 20-year-old Bellport man was seriously injured after his electric scooter collided with two cars at an intersection in North Bellport, police said. The scooter driver was airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital following the crash on Macdonald and Atlantic Avenues. [Patch]
🛣️ Patchogue, Bellport, and the surrounding area are set to receive notable boosts in road and infrastructure funding, thanks to year-over-year increases secured by Sen. Dean Murray. Patchogue will see nearly $26,000 more in CHIPS funding while Bellport gets an additional $12,000. [LILifePolitics]
🚔 A Coram woman who intentionally ran over another woman with her minivan during a 3:30 a.m. fight in Bellport has been sentenced to seven years in prison. The woman pleaded guilty to attempted murder after dragging the 63-year-old victim with her vehicle. [Patch]
🚧 A stretch of Woodside Avenue in Patchogue has been renamed “Angelica Nappi Avenue” in memory of the 14-year-old killed in a 2008 crash caused by a driver with multiple license suspensions.
