Local Middle Schooler Eric S. Awarded LISFA Scholarship
Eighth-grader Eric S. from James Wilson Young Middle School has been honored with a scholarship from the Long Island String Festival Association (LISFA). A dedicated violinist, Eric received this private study grant after being selected for the prestigious LISFA orchestraāan opportunity only available to top-tier student musicians.
To qualify for the scholarship, Eric submitted an essay and received a glowing letter of recommendation from his orchestra teacher, Carl Leichthammer. āEric's exceptional musicianship and unwavering dedication are truly commendable. Itās rewarding to see such hard work recognized,ā Mr. Leichthammer remarked.
The district and community proudly celebrate Ericās achievement, which underscores his commitment to musical excellence.

Patchogue's Own James "The Alley Cat" Gonzalez Steps into the Spotlight
This Saturday, May 18, tune in to witness East Patchogue's James "The Alley Cat" Gonzalez in a thrilling main event bout live from Miami, airing exclusively in English on Fuse at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT. The seasoned fighter, boasting a record of 10-7, will go head-to-head against Patrick "The Leech" Lehane in a catchweight match at 160 pounds.
Gonzalez, a 33-year-old Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under the tutelage of the legendary Matt Serra, steps into the La Jaula for the first time with a wealth of high-level experience. Known for his grappling prowess, Gonzalez's most notable win came against world-ranked Pat Sabatini, securing a TKO victory in just 46 seconds due to an arm injury.
The matchup promises to showcase Gonzalez's strategic acumen and combat skills against Lehane, who has been making waves in COMBATE GLOBAL since his debut. Medford's Ryan McCann Earns Spot on Skyline All-Conference Second Team
Ryan McCann, a sophomore from Medford, NY, and a key pitcher for Manhattanville University, has been named to the Skyline All-Conference Second Team. In his stellar 2024 season, McCann recorded a 2.45 ERA and a team-leading 0.92 WHIP over 66 innings, along with 42 strikeouts. His standout performances, including a season-high eight strikeouts in multiple games, have made him a prominent figure in college baseball. McCann's recognition highlights the exceptional talent emerging from Medford, contributing to his growing reputation in collegiate sports.
