North Bellport Secures $4.5 Million to Fuel Neighborhood Revitalization

North Bellport will soon see tangible change as part of Governor Kathy Hochul’s announcement of 23 transformational projects on Long Island through the Downtown Revitalization Initiative and NY Forward. The community, a Round 2 winner of the NY Forward program, will receive $4.5 million to implement eight strategic projects that target housing, infrastructure, and public spaces.

Among the highlights is a $1.3 million investment in sidewalk and lighting improvements along key corridors like Atlantic and Post Avenues to increase pedestrian safety and neighborhood connectivity. Affordable housing takes center stage with $1.25 million allocated to develop 32 homes and 32 accessory dwelling units on Ecke Avenue, designed to be within reach for working families and located near the LIRR station.

Economic revitalization will also see a boost, with the development of new storefronts and office space at 1700–1742 Montauk Highway and the renovation of a school annex to serve both educational and community needs. Additional upgrades include enhancements at Robert Rowley Park, outdoor improvements at the Boys and Girls Club, and the beautification of Bellport Station and commercial facades.

These initiatives aim to promote long-term resilience through public-private partnerships, creating new opportunities for residents while preserving the community’s character.

NYU Langone Announces $650M Expansion of Patchogue Hospital

NYU Langone Health is set to make a major investment in Suffolk County healthcare with a $650 million expansion at its Patchogue location. The announcement, first reported by Newsday, outlines plans for a new bed tower housing 144 private beds—a substantial enhancement to the recently renamed NYU Langone Hospital — Suffolk.

This expansion comes just months after the formal merger with Long Island Community Hospital was completed in March 2025. The hospital, now part of NYU Langone’s growing system, has already begun upgrades, including reopening its inpatient psychiatric center and building a new ambulatory center on Main Street. However, the proposed bed tower will be the centerpiece of this transformation, dramatically increasing capacity and enhancing patient privacy and comfort.

While details such as the number of stories in the new tower have yet to be finalized, the hospital has filed a certificate of need with New York State—a required step in planning major healthcare projects. The expansion is expected to improve access to advanced medical care for residents in central and eastern Suffolk, where demand for high-quality services has been steadily rising.

Residents can stay informed by following updates from NYU Langone and participating in upcoming community forums once the project enters the public review phase.
