Village of Patchogue Considers New Hilton Tempo Hotel Amid Community Debate

On May 13, 2024, Patchogue Village held a significant public hearing at Village Hall to discuss a proposed rezoning for a new Hilton Tempo hotel at 138 West Avenue. The project, presented by West Avenue Partners LLC, aims to transform a 2.19-acre industrial site into a hotel and residential complex, featuring 116 hotel rooms and 16 luxury apartments.

The proposal includes plans for a rooftop restaurant and substantial parking, promising to bring economic benefits and enhance local amenities. Mike Kelly from West Avenue Partners emphasized the potential positive impacts, noting, "The hotel is expected to draw about 30% of its traffic from nearby train connections, easing vehicular congestion."

However, the project has sparked a mix of reactions among residents. Concerns were raised about the increased traffic, parking difficulties, and potential noise issues from the rooftop entertainment. One a local resident, expressed worries about the deterioration of residential quality of life, while another suggested noise regulations to mitigate late-night disturbances.

Despite these concerns, there is also notable support. David Kennedy of the Chamber of Commerce highlighted the strategic placement of the hotel near significant local attractions and transport links, arguing it would bolster the local economy.

As the village considers these perspectives, the proposal will undergo further scrutiny by the Suffolk County Planning Commission. This marks just the beginning of a comprehensive review process that will incorporate environmental assessments, traffic studies, and detailed planning reviews. The Village Board remains committed to transparency and community engagement throughout the decision-making process, ensuring all voices are heard before any final approval.
