Major Super-Service Station Development in Blue Point Announced â January 11, 1935
On January 11, 1935, Blue Point residents witnessed a milestone in local business development as Louis Schott unveiled progress on a groundbreaking super-service station along Montauk Highway. Set to be one of the largest and most advanced in Suffolk County, the facility marks a transformative moment for the townâs vehicle servicing capabilities.
The new station, situated between Schottâs existing garage and nearby business blocks, features a 70-foot-long, 25-foot-deep structure of frame and brick veneer. Divided into three sections, it includes a lubritorium for oiling and greasing vehicles, an office with restrooms for men and women, and a fully outfitted car washing and polishing unit. Designed to enhance functionality, the station is angled and set back from the road for optimal use.
Concurrent with the January announcement, Schott began remodeling the original garage to align with the new addition. This redesign reduces the garageâs size and reshapes it to create a unified, modern facility. The remodeled building will serve as storage, adding efficiency to the operation.
January 1935 also marked Schottâs launch of Amoco gasoline and oils, becoming the first exclusive distributor of these high-grade motor fuels in Suffolk County. With his son Roger playing an active role, Schott continues to drive innovation in Blue Point.
This project reflects Schottâs decade-long commitment to local growth, which includes the establishment of retail and distribution centers. The January 1935 advancements reinforce his role in shaping Blue Point's commercial landscape.
