Join the Stomp The Stigma 5K

Participate in the Stomp The Stigma 5K on Saturday, May 25, at 9:00 AM at Shorefront Park, Patchogue. This special event honors the memory of Ellyana "Elly" DeLaTorre, a beloved person dedicated to helping others while quietly battling her own mental health issues.

After Ellyana’s sudden passing on August 5, 2021, her family received immense support from the community, which inspired them to continue her legacy through the Elly CARES Project. This initiative aims to spread kindness and raise mental health awareness.

The race features awards for the top overall finishers and various age groups, with cash prizes and gift cards from the Sayville Smithtown Running Company.

Come and be a part of this meaningful event, support mental health awareness, and celebrate Ellyana's enduring spirit.

Bayport-Blue Point Phantoms Aim for Redemption in County Championship

Bayport-Blue Point High School’s girls’ lacrosse team, the Phantoms, have climbed to the 8th spot in USA Lacrosse’s Regional Top 10 rankings following their narrow victory over Rocky Point. With a season record of 16-2, the Phantoms secured a 7-6 win in the Suffolk Class C semifinals, setting the stage for an exciting county championship matchup against Sayville on May 24.

This upcoming game is particularly significant for Bayport-Blue Point, as they seek to avenge one of their only two losses of the season. On April 4, the Phantoms were narrowly defeated by Sayville, 9-8, in a fiercely contested game. Now, with the championship title on the line, the Phantoms are determined to turn the tables on their neighboring rivals.

As the community rallies behind the team, all eyes will be on the field on May 24 to see if the Phantoms can secure victory and claim the county championship. Fans and supporters are encouraged to attend the game and show their support for the local team.

Local Star Gabby Buscemi Earns All-America Honors in Women's Lacrosse

After concluding its 2024 campaign with a second-straight appearance in the NCAA Division II East Region Championship, the University of New Haven women's lacrosse team celebrated significant achievements by two defensive standouts. Gabby Buscemi from East Patchogue, NY, a standout goalkeeper from Patchogue-Medford, earned All-America Honorable Mention accolades by USA Lacrosse.

Buscemi's impressive performance this season played a crucial role in her team's success. Alongside her, Laura Agbayani from Niantic, Conn., was named to the All-America Third Team, highlighting the talent and dedication of the New Haven squad.
