Bayport-Blue Point Dominates Red Hook in Boys Lacrosse

On Saturday, June 1st, Bayport-Blue Point faced off against Red Hook in an exhilarating boys lacrosse match in Middletown, NY. Bayport-Blue Point stormed into the game, securing a rapid 4-0 lead within the first minute. By halftime, they were up 14-0 and ultimately dialed back the intensity to clinch a decisive 17-2 victory.

The scoring frenzy was led by Mikey Luce and Maclin Keyser, both netting hat tricks. Keyser's performance included a notable short-handed goal. Other key contributors included Ben Morris, a senior committed to the Navy, and Ryan Hannaford, who achieved his seventh hat trick of the season. Eighth-grader Jamie Hawkins also made his mark with a goal.

Bayport-Blue Point now advances to the state semifinals, where they will face Rye at SUNY Albany on Wednesday, June 5th, at 6:30 PM. The team’s dominant performance sets a high expectation for the upcoming clash.

Community History

Meadow Croft Estate House Tours

Meadow Croft Estate house tours started this past weekend by The Bayport-Bluepoint Heritage Association. These tours will be offered every weekend from June through October. Trained docents will guide visitors through the estate on Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The BBPHA volunteers have made numerous updates and changes in recent months to enhance the experience at Meadow Croft. Visitors can explore the restored rooms in the servants' quarters and learn about the lives of those who served the Roosevelt family.

Groups of 10 or more can plan a special tour by emailing [email protected] to set a date. Those interested in learning more or becoming a docent are encouraged to contact Jen at 631-235-9342. The BBPHA invites everyone to join them and discover the rich history of Meadow Croft Estate.

Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Bellport Receives Sacred Sites Grant

Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Bellport has received a $10,000 grant from the New York Landmarks Conservancy’s Sacred Sites program. This generous grant will support a $57,000 roof replacement project for the parish’s historic chapel, a cherished 1905 shingle-style building used for smaller services and occasional weddings.

Serving approximately 2,650 community members, Mary Immaculate Catholic Church offers a variety of activities and services, including a food pantry, thrift shop, support groups, a summer camp, community meetings, and an annual art fair. The grant is part of a larger initiative by the Conservancy, which recently pledged 14 Sacred Sites Grants totaling $228,800 to landmarked religious properties across New York State. Half of these grants were awarded to sites in New York City, with nearly a third going to historic synagogues.

Funding for grants in Nassau and Suffolk Counties is generously provided by the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church continues to serve and enrich the Bellport community through its historic and vibrant presence.

On Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, AR Workshop Patchogue will host a DIY class where participants can create various wood or canvas projects. With 20 seats available, attendees can choose from a selection of items such as signs, trays, boxes, and frames. During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to customize their projects using a variety of designer paints and stain colors.

Event: "Smarter than a 5th Grader" Themed Trivia Night

On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Arooga's at 1 West Main Street, Patchogue, NY, will host a "Smarter than a 5th Grader" themed trivia night. Teams will compete by answering progressively challenging questions from different grade levels to determine if they are truly smarter than a 5th grader. The two-hour event promises an entertaining night out, featuring half-price appetizers and a themed drink menu from Arooga's Patchogue. Team check-in is scheduled between 7:45 PM and 8:15 PM, with gameplay starting shortly after 8:00 PM. Late arrivals may forfeit their reservation. A minimum food and beverage spend of $25 per team is required. Reservations are recommended to ensure participation.
