It’s a big week around town with buzzing helicopters fighting mosquitos to music filling the air at the Great South Bay Festival. Here’s what’s happening close to home.

🦟 Helicopters are treating 17 marshes in Brookhaven Town with mosquito larvicide from July 23 to July 25 to control the summer surge of mosquito larvae, Suffolk County officials announced. Weather delays could push the work to the next suitable day. [Patch]

Great South Bay Music Festival Kicks Off in Patchogue
Music lovers from across the region gathered Thursday evening at Patchogue’s Shorefront Park for the long-awaited return of the Great South Bay Music Festival. Now in full swing, the four-day event is a summer staple on Long Island. .
Opening night was highlighted by a headline performance from Taking Back Sunday, the beloved alternative rock band with roots on Long Island. The group delivered an electrifying set that had longtime fans singing along into the night. The festival grounds buzzed with excitement as attendees explored food trucks and multiple performance stages featuring a wide variety of genres.

🤼♂️ Long Island sent 51 wrestlers to the USA Wrestling National Championship in Fargo, with five earning All-American honors.
