Patchogue Tops List—But Not All Is Sunny
Issue #183

Good Morning,
It’s been a week full of highs and lows across our communities. From a tragic crash and fast-moving fires to safety concerns at a senior building, there’s a lot to stay aware of. But there’s also good news—Patchogue is getting some well-earned praise as a top spot for young professionals. And on a lighter note, we’re taking a quick look back at how a 1927 radio ad helped shape the way we connect today.
Thanks for letting us keep you in the loop—let’s get into it.

Day in History
On April 22, 1927, an eye-catching ad from Ackerly’s Music Center at 89 East Main Street made history in Patchogue. The store announced a complete Radiola and Model 104 loud-speaker system for $375 — a price that, adjusted for inflation, would be more than $5,800 today. This wasn’t just a piece of equipment; it was a statement of modern living.
At a time when most radios still required bulky batteries or external eliminators, RCA’s fully electric Radiola was a marvel. Paired with the Model 104 loud-speaker, it delivered amplified sound with unprecedented clarity, making it a must-have for families eager to bring the outside world into their living rooms.
That 1927 investment signaled more than just a technological upgrade — it reflected a growing desire to stay connected, entertained, and informed. Fast forward to today, and that same spirit lives on in how we stream music, tune into podcasts, or catch live news on smart devices. While the hardware has changed, the heart of it remains: sound that brings people together.
Ackerly’s ad wasn’t just selling a radio — it was selling a connection. And nearly a century later, that connection continues to define how we live and listen.
