Lace Up for the Bellport Bay 5K and Kids Fun Run This July
On July 14th, the Bellport community will gather for the annual Bellport Bay 5K Run/Walk, starting at 5 PM, rain or shine, with a free Kids Fun Run kicking off at 4:30 PM. The event takes place at the Bandshell Park near the Main Dock, offering picturesque views and a vibrant atmosphere for participants and spectators alike. The Kids Fun Run requires no prior registration, making it easy for young runners to join in on the fun.
Participants of the 5K can register early to secure a personalized race bib and enjoy a discounted entry fee until June 23rd, after which the price will increase. This community event is not just a race; it's an opportunity to support the Bellport Village Program Fund (BVPF). This local nonprofit works on enhancing Bellport's recreational areas and community facilities, ensuring that all donations from the event will help fund valuable community projects.
Parking for the event is conveniently located near the library and Porters on the Lane, with race day bib and T-shirt pickup starting at 4 PM at the Bellport Bandshell. The Arts
Celebrate Literature and Community
Bloomsday, traditionally celebrated on June 16, commemorates the day depicted in Ulysses and honors Joyce's contribution to modern literature. This year marks the 101st anniversary of the novel's publication, and Patchogue continues the global tradition of celebrating Joyce’s masterpiece. The event first came to life in Dublin in 1954 and has since spread globally, involving readings, performances, and musical interludes.
Set for June 17 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., this event, hosted by PAC•MoCA L.I. and Toast Coffeehouse, promises an enriching evening of literature, music, and camaraderie. More info here
New Business
Two New Ben & Jerry’s Shops Coming to Long Island
Long Island is set to welcome two new Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shops. The locations will open in downtown Patchogue and Station Yards in Ronkonkoma.
The Patchogue store will occupy the previous Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery space at 17 E. Main Street, surrounded by Local Gastro Bar and Pizzette and Del Fuego. The second shop is planned for Ronkonkoma’s Station Yards, expected to open later this year.
Keep an eye out for the grand opening dates, and be ready to celebrate the arrival of Ben & Jerry’s in our community.
Fat Boy’s Burrito Expanding to Patchogue
Fat Boy’s Burrito is set to spice up Patchogue’s dining scene with the opening of a new location at 74B East Main Street, formerly home to The Hero Joint. .
The upcoming Patchogue branch is currently under construction, hinted at by a striking new mural featuring vibrant Mexican-themed artwork, including sugar skull girls in colorful attire. This lively decor sets the tone for what will surely be an interesting addition to the local scene.

Day of Fun at the FREE Family Fun Fest!
Mark your calendars for a delightful day at the FREE Family Fun Fest, hosted by Grace Gospel Church on June 2, 2024, from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM. Located at 214 Falcon Avenue in Patchogue, this event is shaping up to be a fantastic outing for the whole family.
The festival will feature carnival-style games with prizes, an inflatable slide for kids to enjoy, and a variety of treats including cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn, hamburgers, and hot dogs—all completely free!

Celebrate 32 Puppies on Their Journey to Become Service Dogs
In an emotional event in Medford, 32 puppies were celebrated as they completed the first phase of their training to become service dogs. This significant milestone was covered by News 12's photojournalist Pat Mantle, highlighting the impact of a Lake Ronkonkoma school in their development.
The ceremony marked a bittersweet moment as these puppies, having grown and learned in Medford, are now set to continue their training elsewhere. Each dog has been meticulously prepared to offer support and assistance to individuals with disabilities, showcasing the dedication and care invested in their upbringing.
Northeast Regional Training Center of Canine Companions is at the Miller Family Campus located in Medford, NY. The 11-acre, 39,000 square foot Canine Care Center features 38 kennels, exercise yards, a wellness clinic and grooming facility, along with separate kennels and play yards for puppies.
The involvement of the Lake Ronkonkoma school was crucial, providing specialized training environments that contributed significantly to the puppies' early successes. These dogs are not just pets but lifelines to their future owners, equipped with skills to help them navigate daily challenges more independently.

Strong Island Fight Night Series 5: The Six Borough Championships Descends on Patchogue
Patchogue is set to host the thrilling Strong Island Fight Night Series 5 at Stereo Garden, featuring the Six Borough Championships on Saturday, June 15, 2024. This event promises an electrifying showcase of amateur boxing talent from across the six boroughs, including Long Island as the sixth contender.
You will see fighters from across New York's boroughs, including Long Island, competing for over 10 SBC Title Belts in more than 15 bouts. The night is not just about boxing; it’s a full entertainment experience, complete with music by DJ Decoy and three bars offering refreshments.

Local Lacrosse Teams Showcase Strong Performances in Season Standings
Boys
The boys lacrosse season has brought exciting developments for local teams, with Patchogue-Medford, Bellport, and Bayport-Blue Point showcasing varied performances in their respective divisions. .
In Division I, Patchogue-Medford finished with a league record of 8-6 and an overall record of 9-7, accumulating a total of 112.910 points.
Meanwhile, in Division II, Bayport-Blue Point emerged as a top contender, tying for the best record in their division at 13-1, with an overall impressive record of 15-1 and the highest total points of 202.280.
Bellport, however, faced challenges this season, ending with a record of 1-13 in the league and 1-15 overall, totaling 34.630 points.
The Boys Lacrosse C Semi-Final is set for a thrilling encounter as Bayport-Blue Point takes on the winner of the Westhampton versus Harborfields match. This critical game is scheduled for Friday, May 17, 2024, at 6:00 PM.
Girls
The girls' lacrosse season has been eventful for local teams Patchogue-Medford, Bellport, and Bayport-Blue Point, each showing varying levels of success in their respective divisions.
In Division I, Patchogue-Medford ended the season with a balanced record of 7-7 in both league and overall play, totaling 108.420 points. Bellport, with a 5-9 league record and an overall 7-9, accumulated 105.190 points.
Contrastingly, in Division II, Bayport-Blue Point showcased their prowess with an impressive 13-1 league record and 14-2 overall, earning them 209.860 points. This outstanding achievement has secured them a playoff spot, where they will face Miller Place in their first game on Wednesday, May 15, at 4:30 PM.
Patchogue-Medford Badminton Season Wrap-Up
Girls
The Patchogue-Medford girls' badminton team concluded their season with a record of 5-8 in both league play and overall, reflecting a year filled with growth and competitive spirit. Despite not qualifying for the playoffs, the team displayed commendable effort and resilience throughout the season.
Boys
The Patchogue-Medford boys' badminton team wrapped up their season with a league record of 5-8, placing them in the middle of the pack in League I. While they did not qualify for the playoffs, the team showed tenacity and skill against a backdrop of stiff competition.
