Brookhaven Libraries Unite for First-Ever Townwide Expo Celebrating Innovation and Community
In a first-of-its-kind event, all 13 Brookhaven Town public libraries are coming together for the Brookhaven Town Public Libraries Expo, set to take place at Town Hall in Farmingville on Saturday, September 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hosted in partnership with Town Clerk Kevin LaValle, this free, family-friendly expo aims to redefine how the community sees its libraries. They are not just book lenders but centers of innovation, technology, and lifelong learning.
Attendees will have the chance to engage with hands-on technology demonstrations, including 3D printers, Cricut machines, and even sublimation printing. Beyond tech, the expo will offer insights into school and career support programs, such as tutoring services, resume workshops, and continuing education opportunities. Families can look forward to interactive exhibits featuring robotics, VR experiences, and a mobile planetarium, along with crafts, storytime, and giveaways.
“This event is about celebrating the powerful role libraries play in shaping our communities,” said Town Clerk LaValle, underscoring the libraries’ commitment to education, creativity, and connection.

Patchogue Launches Food Scrap Pilot to Build a Greener Future
The Village of Patchogue, in collaboration with Citizens Campaign for the Environment, is launching a Food Scrap Pilot Program aimed at reducing waste and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. The initiative invites 100 Village resident families to participate in this groundbreaking effort to collect food scraps for composting.
An informational session will be held on Wednesday, September 17, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Patchogue-Medford Library. While the meeting is open to the general public, only Village residents are eligible to enroll in the pilot phase of the program.
Organizers hope this trial run will not only demonstrate the effectiveness of local food scrap diversion but also pave the way for a permanent, village-wide program.
Residents interested in being among the first 100 families to take part in this eco-forward movement are encouraged to attend the session and help lead the way in making Patchogue a model for sustainability on Long Island.
