Good Morning,
A reckless car stunt in Patchogue has landed a Queens man behind bars, while Bellport celebrates the long-awaited reopening of its Community Center. The recent winter storm brought less snow than feared, but still challenged local crews with North Patchogue seeing nearly 10 inches. Bellport’s Village Board meeting was pushed due to the weather, and work has begun on upgrading water mains along Country Club Road. Meanwhile, events, restaurant openings, and student award nominations are keeping the community buzzing with new energy.

Snowfall Lighter Than Forecasted, Still Strains Resources
The winter storm that moved through Suffolk County on January 25 brought less snow than some forecasts predicted, but still packed a punch. North Patchogue reported the highest total at 9.7 inches, with 7.8 inches in East Patchogue and Blue Point, and 7.1 inches in North Bellport.
Initial projections called for 8 to 12 inches, with some models suggesting up to 20. Mayor Pontieri of Patchogue Village acknowledged the challenge. “It’s a lot of snow, which means a lot of hours and a lot of expense.”
Though the storm didn’t reach worst-case scenarios, it still required extended efforts from village and town crews. Residents are urged to remain patient as cleanup continues and to follow local snow removal guidelines.
Water Main Replacement Begins on Country Club Road in Bellport
A vital infrastructure upgrade is underway in Bellport Village as the Suffolk County Water Authority (SCWA) begins replacing the water main along Country Club Road. The project, announced on the village’s official website, involves the installation of a new 12-inch ductile iron water main, replacing the older, less reliable infrastructure. Work officially commenced on Monday, January 22, and is expected to continue for approximately three to four weeks, weather permitting.
Residents can expect temporary road closures and detours in the area, but SCWA and the Village of Bellport have coordinated efforts to minimize disruption and maintain safe access for emergency vehicles. The work is part of a broader commitment to modernizing the region’s aging water system to ensure long-term service reliability and quality.
Local officials are urging drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution in the construction zone and to follow posted detour signs. The community is encouraged to stay informed through the village website for ongoing updates.
This project reflects a proactive approach to maintaining essential infrastructure and ensures that Bellport’s growing needs are met safely and efficiently. Residents with questions or concerns can contact the Village Hall for more information or visit the SCWA page linked above.
