A Century of Growth: Patchogue Schools Then and Now

In September of 1929, the Patchogue Advance reported a milestone for the local school system—an enrollment of 2,075 students, up by 118 from the previous year. The article reflected on the town’s rapid growth and the challenges of keeping school facilities up to par. Superintendent Linn noted a steady increase in the number of students across grade levels, from kindergarten through high school, with 78 members in the faculty, including teachers and principals.

Fast forward to today, September 6, 2024, and the Patchogue-Medford Union Free School District continues to thrive, now serving a significantly larger student body. With an enrollment of 7,452 students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade, the district has seen exponential growth over the past century. The student-teacher ratio has improved to 12:1, ensuring a more personalized and supportive learning environment.

This expansion is a testament to the district’s ongoing commitment to education. From its humble beginnings in the late 1920s to the present day, Patchogue’s schools have adapted to meet the evolving needs of the community, consistently providing quality education and expanding opportunities for its students. As the town continues to grow, so too does its dedication to nurturing the next generation.
