Storm Forces Postponement of Alive After Five in Patchogue Village
Unfavorable weather has delayed the Alive After Five street festival, originally scheduled for Thursday, August 1, has been postponed due to a stormy forecast. Organizers shared the news Wednesday afternoon via social media, citing safety and comfort concerns for attendees and vendors.
“The only thing that can stop the party is the rain!” organizers wrote. “Unfortunately, we’ve got to postpone tomorrow’s festivities.” The festival’s scheduled entertainment and activities will now take place on the rain date, Thursday, August 21. The previously planned Alive After Five for August 14 will continue as scheduled.

Patchogue-Medford Unites Generations in Music for Annual Community Concert
In a celebration that strikes a harmonious chord across generations, the Patchogue-Medford School District will host its Third Annual Community Concert tonight, August 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the Patchogue-Medford High School auditorium. The event, free and open to all, promises an uplifting evening featuring the community band, chorus, and orchestra, along with a lively pre-show performance by the district’s summer rock/jazz ensemble.
Under the guidance of educators like Saxton Middle School’s Boris Salgado and the leadership of District Director of Art, Music, and Cultural Arts Nathan Brinkman, the concert brings together a remarkable mix of talent incuding students, alumni, teachers, staff, parents, and local residents. These groups have been rehearsing throughout the summer making connections that extend beyond the stage.
Community members are encouraged to attend, support their neighbors, and experience the joy of a truly intergenerational performance. For more information, visit www.pmschools.org or follow updates at facebook.com/PatMedSchools.
The Gateway Celebrates 76 Years with “Party on the Point”
A summer night on Long Island became a celebration of legacy, talent, and community as The Gateway marked its 76th anniversary with the annual “Party on the Point.” Held at the home of supporter Boykin Curry, the event brought together sponsors, donors, staff, alumni, and performers for an evening of connection, appreciation, and Broadway-caliber entertainment.
Guests were treated to performances by cast members from Phantom, including Gail Baennett, Aaron De Jesus, Matthew Malecki Martinez, and Cassie Austin, alongside talented students from The Gateway School for the Performing Arts and the young cast of Disney’s The Lion King Jr., who brought joy to the crowd with their rendition of “Hakuna Matata.” The evening was hosted by Executive Artistic Director Paul Allan, Director of Development Sue Daconto, and acting educator Joe Minutillo, who underscored the importance of continued arts education and funding.
With dozens of attendees stepping forward to support The Gateway’s Acting School Scholarship Fund, the night was a powerful reminder of how deeply the arts are woven into the community. While the event has ended, supporters are still encouraged to contribute, helping ensure that The Gateway continues to bring world-class theater and arts education to Long Island for generations to come.
