Running for Heroes
Join Eva Casale in Patchogue for a Veteran-Honoring Marathon
Long Island marathoner Eva Casale is in the midst of a significant undertaking, running seven marathons in seven days to honor veterans, with a special stop in Patchogue this week. This marathon series, aimed at supporting military service men and women and their families, will highlight the sacrifices of local heroes, including U.S. Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy.
Eva Casaleās "Every Veteran Appreciated Week" included an important segment in Patchogue on Tuesday, with the day dedicated as "Michael Murphy/Brookhaven Fallen Heroes Day." During this segment, Casale made stops at local memorials including Brookhaven Town Hall and the Patchogue-Medford High School. The latter hosting a special 5k event starting and finishing at the school, honoring Lt. Murphy.
In addition to joining the run, community members can also participate virtually by contributing $35 to run or walk a minimum of one mile on any day of the marathon week. Throughout her route, Team E.V.A. will visit over 300 Points of Honor, paying tribute to the fallen with flowers and flags. The initiative is not just a test of endurance but a profound act of remembrance and support, inviting the community of Patchogue to come together in a show of gratitude for those who served. The marathon journey will culminate in a closing ceremony in Glen Cove, but the spirit of the event is hoped to resonate.
