Brown’s Grit Helps BBP to State Title

Bayport-Blue Point senior Emma Brown wasn’t ready for her high school lacrosse career to end—not even after breaking her ankle seven games into the season.

The Stanford-bound defender started physical therapy immediately, aiming for a return during the playoffs. Though she missed the county and Long Island finals, Brown made it back just in time to help the Phantoms clinch the Class C state championship with a 17-7 win over Queensbury at SUNY Cortland.

“Just going to PT multiple times a week and pushing—I never stopped,” Brown said.

Her return capped a dominant 21-1 season fueled by standouts like Kailey Bruckner, Emma Shanahan, Aubrie Eisfeld, and goalie Sophia Diaz. After falling short in last year’s Suffolk final, the Phantoms used it as motivation.

“It put fuel to the fire,” Shanahan said. “We showed up every game—and it got us a state championship.”
